Traditional skills and specialist experience
Over the years, we have worked on a wide variety of historic properties, including listed buildings, churches and other buildings of special interest.
These projects often demand more than conventional roofing skills. Traditional materials, specialist leadwork and an understanding of existing construction can all be important when repairing and restoring an older building.
Our experience includes slate and tile roofing, specialist leadwork, chimney repairs and rebuilding, lime mortar work, structural repairs and more extensive restoration projects.
At the same time, we’re equally at home working on modern residential and commercial properties, whether the requirement is a straightforward roof repair, a replacement roof or a new roofing installation.
More than just roofing
Some projects require several different trades and skills to work together.
Temple Leadworks has experience undertaking substantial projects involving roofing alongside carpentry, oak repairs, insulation, brickwork, lime rendering and other associated building work.
This allows us to take a broader view of the building and the work required, rather than simply treating an isolated roofing problem.
You can see examples of this work in our Projects section.

Proven experience on historic buildings
Our work on listed and historic properties has included substantial, long-term restoration projects as well as specialist roofing, leadwork and chimney repairs.
Temple Leadworks was principal contractor on a three-year programme of remedial work to Grade II listed buildings at St Andrew’s School in Biggleswade. The project included complete roof replacement, insulation, lime pointing, damp proofing, carpentry, brickwork, oak repairs, lime rendering and decorating.
Following the work, Robin Uff, then Principal Conservation Officer at Central Bedfordshire Council, praised the conservation approach and standard of the leadwork:
“The remedial works have been in accordance with usual conservation good practice and the leadwork in particular has been of a high standard of workmanship.”
Our more recent projects include extensive listed-building restoration at Bridewell House in Buntingford, major roof reconstruction at a listed property in Essendon and traditional chimney restoration in Weston.
